NY Lotto, Take 5 — Little Bit of Luck

jtherkal: I can’t objectively rate this, because I’ve seen the print ads on the subway. In fact, the only reason I found this commercial is because I was searching for the print ads online. I really wanted to write a posting about how horrifically terrible they are, because I have to look at them every morning and they have become like an evil, rabid dog, from which I can never escape. A rabid dog I wish I could run down with a car. And then run over its head, again and again, while laughing and shouting “how’s that for a little bit of luck…”

It’s hard to narrow down what makes me hate the print ads so much. For starters, the writing is absolutely terrible on them. As if they took a retired writer from history’s worst sitcom (Who’s the Boss?) and accepted the first draft of what he wrote as their final copy.

Then, they picked the most annoying, unfriendly, asshole-looking person and made him “A Little Bit of Luck.” Shouldn’t that character be cute and likable? I want to push this Little Bit of Luck in front of an oncoming subway. What about Gary Coleman? Or that kid from Jerry Maguire?

And who did the graphic design (I really need to post a picture of these)? Did they hire all unemployed people from the 80s? Were these ads supposed to run on a subway in JEM? Truly outrageous. Or maybe they took their design cues from the 2012 London Olmpics logo, possibly the most chastised logo in history:

I apologize to my west coast associate, who will likely have never seen these ads. He’ll have to judge the commercial on its own, without the added benefit of several weeks spent building an intense hatred of the campaign. F.

sjbooher: Yikes. Although you did succeed in building my hatred… “Who’s The Boss?” the worst sitcom ever? Are you serious? It defined the sexual tension, you know they’re gonna hook up one day genre, for our generation! Any way, speaking of hooking up, A Little Bit Of Luck is gonna get some tonight! I sort of thought he was funny, and not too awful, until he made that cat screech at the end. Women make that noise not men. This is bad. D.
