#2.13 — CareerBuilder — Chimps In Cars

Monday, February 14th, 2011

sjbooher: Phew… thought we were not going to get our annual serving of chimps there for a minute. I didn’t think this was funny, though, and I don’t think that chimps are so associated with CareerBuilder that they can afford to wait so long to tell you what they are advertising. C for chimps.

jtherkal: Careerbuilder? Careersite? Jobhunter? I don’t like career sites. The only one I remember is Monster.com. If you asked me, I could have told you this was for a job site, but I probably couldn’t have named the site. This was average at best. But probably not even that. C-, only because I like watching that car get smashed up.

#2.7 — Careerbuilder — Casual Fridays

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

jtherkal: This year was the year of the underpants joke. Of the bunch, this was probably the best. Anyone have an opinion on why you’d pick one of Careerbuilder or Monster over the other? No? Because their ads don’t really tell you either. B-.

sjbooher: Apparently you pick Monster if you are a non-human (AKA a Boogie Man or a beaver). If you are a sophomoric idiot, you pick CareerBuilder. C-.

#1.14 — Monster — Beaver Violinist

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

sjbooher: Beaver violinist? Good, clean fun, minus the woman-as-only-a-sex-object at the end. B-.

jtherkal: Monster typically has great Super Bowl ads. I don’t think they were far off here, but I think they could have had the jokes work a little harder. And I can’t knock a beaver for getting some ass at the end. That’s just how a beaver violinist rolls. Don’t hate. B+.

#3.6 — CareerBuilder.com — Hey, dummy!

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

sjbooher:Ha, I love it! “Hey, dummy!” is my favorite part, with koala punching a close second. Win. And Kanye co-signed, if that counts. A.

jtherkal: This was perhaps my favorite commercial of the Super Bowl. The repetition gets your attention and burns into your brain. And each of the bits are pretty funny. That lady on the dolphin? Where the hell did that come from? My favorite part is when the guy is drinking gold. “It’s gold.” You’re damned right it is. A+.

#3.4 — Monster.com — Moose Head And Ass

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

sjbooher: I guess this is sort of memorable. I guess that guy probably does want a new job. I new the attempt at humor here fails with me and makes me angry. C-.

jtherkal: “I new the attempt at humor here…” What? Maybe you need a new job. This is a simple, memorable, instant classic joke. I didn’t see it coming, and I feel like that’s sometimes hard to do nowadays. And more than being a nice joke, it delivers the message. You get the ass end of the deal. Get a new job. The only problem is, I can never separate the Monster and CareerBuilder ads in my head. I think both sites suck. A-.
